ABOUT THE ROOT LOCK: Mulabhanda, also known as mulbhand or the root lock, refers in western anatomy to the pelvic floor. This muscular lock which effectively closes off the lower end of the upper body, is essential in all parts of yoga, including meditation.
We use it to hold and direct energy during our practice. It is also essential in core strength and freedivers will benefit hugely from learning how to activate, and consciously relax, this deeper inner lock, not only for stability in the water, but also for flexibility of the diaphragm to maximise deep equalisation.
Practice mulabhanda anywhere and everywhere (it will also help you to not pee yourself when you get older! :-)
